You read a book with your body

I found Lee Ha-young on YouTube. I wanted to borrow some of the way she lives and thinks, so I bought her book.

'I Respect My Twenty-Year-Old Self the Most' — Lee Ha-young

In the chapter "You read a book with your body," she asks you to read for about 30 minutes, close the book, and write. So I am writing this. Jachung, another YouTuber and writer, also says that to become rich you need reading and writing. What is hidden in reading and writing?

  • You read a book with your body.
  • You do not read a book. You open it.
  • You do not read a book. You write it.
  • You eat to live. You read to live.
  • A book is a tool that moves me.

This is how the writer looks at books. She really wanted to press this. It feels like she is saying: this is good, this is really good, this is all you have to do, please try it.

The way I understand it: when you read, the writer's thoughts come in, mix with yours, break apart, and get edited again. In that process your thinking changes, and your words change. That changes your world and the people around you. Read a lot of good books, take your own thoughts apart, and edit them again, and the height of the view you have on the world changes. Sometimes the same place feels different just because you are looking from the top of a mountain. Reading seems to give life a slightly higher view. That is why the writer asks you, more actively, to read, think, write, apply it to life, and read it with your body in many ways.

A thought I keep having lately is that learning how to adjust the way you look at the world, and the feelings that come with it, may be the work of living. If I see the world as a good and happy place, or as a hard and painful place, the world arrives as a completely different feeling. The world is just there. Reading lets you borrow many thoughts and views and stretch your own. That process gives you a view that can look at yourself from a third-person place. I think that is the next step I should aim for.
